From May 8 to June 30, 2024, the first phase of the energy disconnection program promoted by the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission (CREG) of Colombia comes into force, with Resolution No. 101 043 of 2024 .

This innovative program offers large energy consumers the opportunity to participate in the energy market by reducing their consumption and receiving financial compensation in exchange, through an authorized representative such as Klik Energy.

Klik Energy, a leader in the sector, has confirmed that to date, companies that have participated in the Voluntary Disconnectable Demand (DDV) program have generated more than $5 million in revenue. In addition, they are ready to contribute up to 3.5GWh/day to the country, equivalent to the daily energy consumption of more than 350,000 homes.

“Klik Energy has the experience and technology necessary to implement the RD mechanism, maximizing companies’ income and supporting the country’s energy reliability,” highlighted Esteban Quintana, CEO of Klik Energy. “Demand participation is crucial in this context, and the RD program establishes clear criteria to promote it and achieve true empowerment of demand for a user-centered energy transition.”

To participate, large energy consumers must have a representative agent in the market and have the ability to reduce their consumption during certain times of the day. They can choose the times that best suit their operations, participating with at least one hour of disconnection. Those that have backup plants can make their assets profitable through the income from the mechanism.

The economic remuneration will be calculated according to the amount of energy disconnected and accepted by XM, the operator of the Colombian energy market, based on a competitive offer. The reduction in consumption will be verified by an independent auditor hired by the CREG.

The benefits of participating include the generation of income by making energy consumption more flexible, the profitability of energy assets, greater reliability in the energy supply for the country and a contribution to the energy transition. Additionally, the program could become permanent if users demonstrate great potential for consumption reduction.

With this initiative, Klik Energy reaffirms its commitment to the energy supply and stability of the Colombian system.
