Barcelona The sisters Dolores and Pilar V., along with the latter’s husband, agreed to kill Dolores’ romantic partner. They drew up a plan that Pilar’s husband ended up executing on the morning of July 10, 2021: while the victim was in her room, he attacked her with a metal crowbar. The man was able to reach the door that connects the apartment with the staircase of the block, where his executioner finished him off with several blows to the head. Then, together, they wrapped the body in a blanket and cleaned the remains of blood.

A week ago the jury that tried the three defendants already declared them guilty of murder with treachery and this Friday the Court of Barcelona sentenced them to between 16 and 20 years in prison. The highest is for Dolores, because the aggravating factor of kinship as the victim’s partner is added. And the lowest, for Pilar. On her husband, the president of the court imposes a sentence of 17 years in prison, even though he was the executor of the crime, considering that he confessed to killing the man. He said, however, that he had done it in self-defense. Instead, the two sisters denied any involvement.

According to the jury, the evidence says otherwise. It follows from the WhatsApp messages sent by the three convicts that they had been “planning” how to kill him for some time. They had planned to “stun him with chloroform” or “fry him” with an electric gun that Isaac, Pilar’s husband, had at home. In one of the messages, Pilar tells Isaac that the defense “has 2,000 kW and that if it goes directly to the heart it can hurt”. A video was also sent in which Isaac is seen using the stun gun and telling his wife: “This fry”. The idea was to kill him before July 9 (in fact the crime takes place on the night of July 9-10, 2021), but in the end the three defendants opted for another weapon, the crowbar.

The instigator

The ruling rules out that the defendants acted “obfuscated” by possible mistreatment of the victim to Dolores, of which there is no evidence either. He concludes that all three knew perfectly well what they were doing and emphasizes Pilar’s role as an instigator because of “the psychic influence” she exerted on her husband so that he ended up carrying out the murder. In addition to the prison sentence, the three convicts will have to pay compensation of 200,000 euros to the victim’s family.
