Previously, more than 30 regions of Russia took similar measures. In the Sverdlovsk region, QR codes for entering shopping centers were canceled from December 22 to January 20, the authorities of the Kaliningrad and Novosibirsk regions canceled the mandatory QR codes on transport. In the Belgorod region, the QR code system for visiting public places has completely ceased to operate since December 21.

On November 12, against the backdrop of an increase in morbidity and mortality from covid, as well as a high burden on the medical system, the government submitted initiatives to the lower house of parliament on the use of QR codes in public places, as well as on intercity and international transport. The State Duma adopted the bill on the introduction of QR codes in public places in the first reading on December 16, the bill on QR codes in transport was withdrawn from consideration. Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to finalize both documents.

Over the past day, 25,667 cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in Russia – the figure does not exceed the level of 26,000 for the third day in a row. The peak incidence was recorded on November 6 – 41,335 cases. The daily mortality from coronavirus in Russia is also decreasing: from December 17, it does not exceed 1,100 cases, and from December 6 – 1,200 cases. The collective immunity to coronavirus in Russia is 58.2% with a target of 80%.
