This project adopted by the Government Council will remain a witness to Morocco’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and protecting the democratic achievements made by the Kingdom under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, said Mr. Ouahbi, quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Justice.
He thus noted that the adoption of this law is not only a step towards the modernization of the legal system, but also a materialization of a firm political will to establish a strong justice system that places the rights and security of citizens at the top of the priorities.
This project, which is intended to be an important step towards strengthening criminal justice and modernizing the national legal system, aims to complete the implementation of justice reforms initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on several occasions, continued the same source.
The new bill is considered one of the most important legislative projects launched by the Ministry of Justice, as it constitutes the main engine of the criminal justice system closely linked to the protection of rights and freedoms, the achievement of public safety and the fight against crime, the statement stressed, noting that it will also contribute to strengthening the confidence of social and economic actors in the judicial system and its institutions.
The said project is part of the intense dynamics that the Kingdom of Morocco is experiencing in the field of human rights and the fight against crime, as well as its positive commitment to many relevant international conventions.
Likewise, it reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening fair trial guarantees, simplifying criminal procedures and developing mechanisms to combat crime.
Among the main new features introduced by this project are the strengthening of guarantees of fair trial and the rights of the defense, the modernization of criminal justice mechanisms and the improvement of their efficiency, the development of mechanisms to combat crime, the protection of victims’ rights at all stages of public proceedings, the establishment of legal rules for criminal policy, the strengthening of the protection of minors and the rationalization of preventive detention.
The adoption of this project reflects Morocco’s desire to modernize the national legal arsenal in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution and to meet national and international expectations. It also strengthens the Kingdom’s role in the field of human rights and public freedoms.
Therefore, the Ministry of Justice underlines the importance of this project for the achievement of justice and the guarantee of public security, calling on all parties concerned to cooperate to enrich it during parliamentary discussions in order to best serve the general interest of the Kingdom of Morocco.
