Cancellations and delays continued across the U.S. on Sunday. Cancellations come amid U.S. Independence Day celebrations, at least 267 flights into, out of the U.S., or domestic flights, were canceled starting at 3:16 p.m., and nearly 2,300 were detained

FlightAware.com air travel tracking site reports that most of the cancellations on flights from the US and the US and the delays, were on flights to China, Canada and Europe.

Heathrow Airport in London and Frankfurt in Germany, together experienced 494 flight delays, while two other airports, Pearson in Toronto and Schiphol in Amsterdam, together resulted in 484 delays and 72 cancellations. American Airlines announced Wednesday that it will suspend all ticket sales for flights outside Schiphol.

Tickets are no longer available for American flights from Amsterdam between July 7 and July 31, tickets that have already been purchased will be valid. The situation at Pearson in Toronto is so bad that it was recently reported that one hiker was waiting for his luggage there 16 days after his arrival. New York airports reported relative quiet in terms of delays and cancellations although a suspicious object yesterday resulted in an evacuation at New York JFK Airport, where 10% of flights were delayed, the New York Post reported.

Newark Airport reported only 4% flight delays and 3% cancellations. At La Guardia Airport, only six flights were canceled and 38 canceled (8%). The problem is that 3.5 million Americans plan to travel during the weekend of American holidays, but airlines have endless bookings and are manpower-free, causing serious delays for passengers.
