The trial in the Thandi case against Transport Minister Antony Raju will be completed within three months. Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate gave a report to the High Court Registrar. When Anthony Raju was made a member of the cabinet after it was revealed that there was a conspiracy to save a foreigner who was accused in the drug case, the trial proceedings are also going on endlessly. Salvador Zarli, an Australian citizen, was arrested at Thiruvananthapuram airport with hashish in his underwear. To save this foreigner from the case, Anthony Raju, who was a lawyer in the Vanchiur court, manipulated Thondimuthal. Antony Raju’s senior lawyer Celine Wilfrant appeared in court on behalf of the foreigner. The Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court sentenced a foreigner to 10 years in a drug case. But the High Court acquitted Sarli.
It was acquitted in view of the defense’s argument that the underwear worn by the foreigner, such as the main thondi, was not suitable for a foreigner and that it was a fake thondi. The investigation was started following a complaint filed by the then investigating officer Jayamohan in the High Court who suspected that Thondimuthal was tampered with. In 1994, the Vanchiur police filed a case in this regard. The investigation found that Thondimuthal was tampered with by Jose, a thondi clerk of the Thiruvananthapuram court, and Anthony Raju, a lawyer. According to the charge sheet, forensic examination revealed that Antony Raju, who bought the underwear kept in the court with the help of the clerk, cut it. In 2014, the Nedumangad 1st Class Magistrate’s Court transferred the 2014 charge-sheet filed against the two persons in the Thiruvananthapuram court in 2006. The case was heard several times. Notice was sent to Anthony Raju. Although the case has been heard 22 times, the accused have not been read the charge sheet or gone to trial.
The charges include conspiracy, falsification of documents, fraud, falsification of documents and tampering with evidence. Meanwhile, Antony Raju, who got bail in the case, contested the election and became a minister. With this, the government has not approached the court to speed up the trial in the serious crime of helping the accused in the drug case. Anthony Raju was denied a seat in 2006 as he was accused in the same case.
