London: India’s Lakshya Sen reaches final in men’s All England Championship Lakshya Sen reached the final by defeating defending champion Lee Xia Jia of Malaysia in two games to one. The score was 13 12-21 21-19.

Lakshya Sen, 20, is the first Indian male to reach the final of the All England Open and the fifth Indian to reach the final of the All England Open, after Prakash Nath (1947), Prakash Padukone (1980, 1981) and Pullela Gopichand (2001). Of these, only Prakash Padukone and Gopichand won the title. In 2015, Saina Nehwal reached the final in the women’s singles but lost to Carolina Marino of Spain. Lakshya also became the first man to reach the final of the All England Open after 21 years.

Lakshya Sen, who dominated from the start in the first game, won the game 21-13 and got off to a good start. However, Lee Sea fought back in the second game to win the game 12-21. Lee took the lead early in the decisive third game but came back with a decisive 16-12 lead. Lee then fought back, but won 21-19 and advanced to the final. The final is on Sunday.

Lakshya Sen, who is in excellent form after winning bronze at the last World Badminton Championships, won the Super 500 in January. Lakshya Sen was the runners-up at last week’s German Open.

Lakshya Sen had a walkover in the quarter. China’s Lu Guangzhou, who was Lakshya’s opponent in the quarterfinals, withdrew from the match and reached the semi – finals without competing. Earlier in the day, 20 – year – old Lakshya Sen reached the quarterfinals after beating world number three Anders Androns of Denmark in straight sets in the pre – quarterfinals.

Lakshya Sen is India’s only hope left in the All England Open singles. Indian hopefuls Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth were already out in the pre-quarters.
