The customs people at the airport come across very creative illegal smuggling attempts more than once, but it is doubtful if they have ever come across something like this. A traveler who arrived in California in the United States was caught by customs officials after trying to smuggle a gun inside fresh chicken.

In 2022, a record number of guns were seized in Florida crossings. According to the data released by the authorities in the United States, passengers brought over 700 guns with them in the last year which they tried to smuggle. New records were set at 12 Florida airports, with Orlando (129 guns), Fort Lauderdale (120 guns) and Tampa (102 guns) leading the way. Almost all the guns discovered at the checkpoints were loaded, and some even had bullets.

Nector Iglesias, spokesman for the investigations branch of the Department of Homeland Security in the United States, said:
Each passenger is responsible for knowing exactly where their gun is before entering the security checkpoint. The civil penalties for attempting to smuggle weapons into the United States may reach up to $13,910, but the citizens who are caught will not necessarily go into custody, but will be forced to take a considerable amount of money out of their pockets.
