Mission of the CVR Burundi in Belgium: In search of the truth beyond the borders
Brussels (Belgium, capital of the European Union), June 27, 2023 – As part of the foreign policy of Burundi, this Tuesday, at the Embassy of Burundi in Belgium, the much appreciated Ambassador Ntahiraja Thérence, Ambassador of Burundi to Belgiumwelcomed the president of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Burundi, the very respectable Mr. Ndayicariye Pierre Claver, accompanied by his team. This delegation was warmly welcomed, underlining the importance of the mission of the CVR in Belgium. Exchanges took place between the embassy and this high-level delegation on mission in Brussels [1]. Amb. Ntahiraja has also set up an appointment with the Secretary General of the ACP-EEC (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific – European Economic Community), an organization bringing together more than 70 countries, with the aim of sharing the work of the TRC Burundi and informing about the painful truth of Burundi’s past. During this contact, Amb. Ntahiraja Thérence received as a gift the latest book by Mr. Ndayicariye Pierre Claver, entitled “Burundi 2015, Time.news of an announced plot“, now available at the Embassy. In the afternoon, the TRC immediately began its meetings [2] pour collect testimonies from Burundians living in Belgium. Today, the delegation gives priority to witnesses by meeting them individually, either at their home or at the headquarters of the Embassy of Burundi in Belgium. One of the planned meetings concerns the widow of Commander Karorero Charles, executed in 1969 by the power of the time…
