He Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation indicated on its website that the volcano, at an activity level 3 (out of a maximum of 4), registered an eruption lasting 56 seconds at 8:46 local time (1:46 GMT).
The outburst was preceded by another, about an hour before, of lesser intensity that sent smoke and ash to 957 meters of height with a duration of more than 13 minutes, while on Thursday -on two occasions- and on Tuesday it also registered small rashes.
As a result of the increase in the activity of the volcano, located in the strait that separates the islands of Sumatra and Java and whose summit rises 157 meters above sea level, the authorities maintain a safety ratio of five kilometers.
On December 22, 2018, a strong nocturnal eruption of the volcano caused the mountain cone to partially collapse, which in turn caused a tsunami that surprised hundreds of people who were spending the holidays from Christmas on the coasts of Java and Sumatra.
More than 400 people died and some 14,000 were injured, according to official figures.
