The daughter touched space in a vehicle named after her father

The daughter made history by going on a space flight in a vehicle named after her father. Alan Shepherd became the first American to fly in space in 1961. Eldest daughter Laura Shepherd Churchley has been in her father’s path for more than 50 years, experiencing weightlessness in space.

Laura flew into space on a Blue Origin ‘New Shepherd’ rocket. Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space company named the rocket ‘New Shepherd’ in honor of Alan Shepherd, the fifth man to land on the moon.

The New Shepherd, along with six others, including Laura, left Texas at 8:45 a.m. Saturday. The team returned to Earth in 11 minutes after traveling 100 km in the world-recognized space limit.
