Starting this year, self-employed persons must file taxes exclusively electronically. And time is running out. Tax returns must be submitted by Thursday, May 2 at the latest. Aktuálně.cz will advise how to do it.
The basic deadline for filing a paper tax return is April 2, 2024. Everyone who has a data box, but must file their tax return electronically. The deadline is next Thursday, May 2.
The Financial Administration points out that it will not be possible to repeat last year’s decision, when it waived the fine to all those who filed returns in electronic form instead of paper. Those who prepared the tax return in the wrong form this year have until May 2 to correct it.
The Financial Administration will apply the exception to senior citizens over 70 years of age who have never communicated electronically with the Financial Administration and submitted their tax return in paper form by the due date, i.e. by the beginning of this month. According to her, there are literally thousands of people.
Tax returns do not need to be filed by people whose taxable income last year did not reach 50,000 crowns per year.
The tax return can be submitted via the My Taxes portal, which is the most common way, or via a data box. It is possible to log in to the Moje daně portal using a data box, an ID card with a chip or a bank identity. Electronic forms are available in which the return can be filled in according to the instructions. The advantage is also the possibility of continuous saving of divided work, so the tax return does not have to be filled in all at once. The completed document can be submitted directly from the portal or forwarded to the data box and submitted through that return.
All attachments must also be uploaded to the completed tax return (for example, confirmation of taxable income from dependent activity), for example in PDF format. However, the tax return must be exclusively in XML format, it is not possible to use a scanned form in PDF format. But it’s a good idea to save it as a PDF on your computer for personal archiving. Declarations in XML do not need to be signed.
You can also use an online application to process your tax return, which will issue it in XML and PDF format and also issue reports for insurance companies.
Self-employed persons can claim various discounts when filling out their personal income tax return, for example for husband or wife, you can find a complete overview here. However, due to the approved consolidated package, people will read some discounts for the last time this year.
An overview of income and expenses for social security administration and an overview of the amount of the tax base for the health insurance company must be submitted by the self-employed person within 30 days of submitting the tax return.
People filing returns through a tax advisor or attorney have until July 1. The same term applies to companies that, according to the law, must have their financial statements verified by an auditor. Only if it falls on a weekend, the deadline is moved to the first working day of the month.
If the tax return is submitted five working days late, there is no penalty. Subsequent penalties for each day of delay are 0.05 percent of the tax paid or 0.01 percent of the determined tax loss for each subsequent day of delay. The maximum penalty is five percent. If the entrepreneur does not submit the tax return at all, even after being asked by the authority, the fine is a minimum of 500 crowns and a maximum of 300,000 crowns.
