The death toll during the descent of a glacier in the Dombai region in the mountains of Karachay-Cherkessia has increased to two, another tourist with a serious injury is being evacuated, said the head of the region, Rashid Temrezov.

“Today, a group of six tourists from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and the Krasnoyarsk Territory turned out to be in the collapse zone of a part of the Alibek glacier in Dombai. Emergency services immediately went to the scene, however, unfortunately, two tourists died … Another seriously injured tourist is currently being evacuated by rescuers, doctors are already working with her, ”Temrezov wrote on Instagram.

According to him, other tourists who were in the zone of the glacier collapse did not suffer. Now there are no people in this zone, the head of the region noted. In addition, in the near future, the passage along the route in the area of ​​the Alibek gorge will be temporarily suspended – the collapse of a part of the glacier was caused by its strong melting due to natural and climatic factors, Temrezov explained.

He clarified that the tourist group caught by the descent of the glacier was not registered with the Ministry of Emergency Situations before entering the route. He stressed that it is necessary to register with the Ministry of Emergency Situations in such cases.

Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that as a result of the collapse of a part of the Alibek glacier in the village of Dombai at an altitude of 2200 m, a group of six tourists from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and the Krasnoyarsk Territory was injured. One of them died, two were injured.
