Two more people have died over the past day as a result of poisoning with surrogate alcohol in the east of the Orenburg region. Thus, the total death toll has increased to 32, the press service of the regional government said. Earlier it was reported about 30 dead.

“The number of those admitted to hospitals with poisoning with a surrogate has increased to 64, of which 32 have died,” the report says (quoted by TASS). According to the press service, 25 victims are in hospitals, another 7 refused hospitalization and are being treated on an outpatient basis. In total, within the framework of the investigation of the case, ten people were arrested who may be involved in the sale of counterfeit alcohol.

Information about the poisoning of residents of the Orenburg region with surrogate alcohol was received on the night of October 6-7. Cases of poisoning were detected in six settlements of the Eastern Orenburg region: in the villages of Nikolskoye (Orenburgsky district), Krasny Chaban (Dombarovsky district), Akzharskoye (Yasnensky urban district), Dzhasai villages (Adamovsky district), Komsomolsky (Adamovsky district) and the city of Orsk.

Subsequently, the main warehouse, from where counterfeit alcohol was supplied for sale, was identified in Orsk on the territory of a trade and purchasing base. As part of the search, more than 1.2 thousand bottles were seized there without the necessary labeling. Also in Orsk, a point of production, bottling and storage of these products was revealed, from where the investigators took more than 3 thousand bottles and the corresponding equipment for the production of counterfeit products.
