After a short day of break on Sunday, the debates resume this Monday in the Assembly on the revision of the budget in order to support the measures in favor of purchasing power defended by the government. A government that has so far avoided going off the road, despite a few warnings.
Only ten opposition votes were needed to impose a tax on the superprofits of companies linked to hydrocarbons on the government. But apart from this alert on Saturday evening, and the now traditional spats in the hemicycle, the mission has so far been successful for Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and the presidential alliance.
However, it will have been necessary to let go of the ballast on fuel prices. The government finally agreed to act directly on the price at the pump with a discount which should approaching 30 cents per liter in September. A request from the Republicans who in exchange responded to the majority of the measures defended by the executive.
The rest of the examination of the amending finance bill should be less agitated on Monday, even if there remains a sensitive question, that of financial compensation for local authorities forced to increase civil servants and social minima. A subject which divided the presidential camp, the deputies close to the former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe having voted an amendment on the subject against the opinion of the government.
A clarification is expected during the vote on the last articles of the text and before a new battle starts, in the Senate this time.
