The two starred in the 2008 film Twenty20.
Producer Siyad Kokkar talks about the film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and starring Mohanlal and Mammootty. His response was in an interview with Janko Space TV.
‘I saw the movies’ Appunni’ and ‘Kurukkante Kalyanam’ and asked who its director Sathyan Anthikkad was. So Sathyan met Anthikkad and called him to Ernakulam. The first discussion was with John Paul. In the story that emerged as a result of that discussion, there was a plan to make a film with Mohanlal and Mammootty. Not a multistar movie. But it was a movie that suited both of them.
Saw them. Both said date. But I do not know if it’s my time or the movie’s. It was time for them to grow up. At that time, a decision was made between them. The two decided not to act unless it was a film of equal importance. We also knew that decision. They also started an investigation to find out if they are equal characters. When such an onsite came along, the work did not go ahead. Then I had to think differently from that subject.
Mammootty is also a good friend of mine and Lal is also a very good friend of mine. I have no hesitation in filming with them yet. But it should be within my budget. As a producer I have a budget. How much money can you make a good movie during this period? I’m ready to go. But the film has to be made on a budget. Many will have to compromise on many things. If that happened then we would all be in big trouble, “said Siad Koker.
