After the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, there has been a demand in various circles to cancel the opportunity to whiten black money in the current fiscal year’s national budget. In view of this demand, the advisory council of the interim government has decided to cancel the opportunity to whiten black money.

This decision was taken at the advisory council meeting at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna on Thursday (August 29). Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, gave this information at the end of the meeting.

The budget of the current financial year has been strongly criticized after providing an opportunity to turn black money into white by taxing it at a fixed rate. This pouring opportunity to whiten black money has been given for one year from July. According to the budget, cash can be legalized or laundered without question by taxing 15 percent. Similarly, money can be laundered by buying land, flats, apartments and paying taxes at specific rates depending on the area. Specific tax is to be paid per square meter for each area.

Before this, various governments including Awami League, BNP had given the opportunity to turn black money into white.
