The House of Representatives issued a statement describing “the Presidential Council’s decision to establish a national referendum and inquiry body as invalid and demanded that the Presidential Council withdraw it immediately.”

He said The House of Representatives in its statement, “The Presidential Council’s decision to establish a referendum commission is an infringement of its powers stipulated in the Geneva Agreement and an encroachment into constitutional jurisdictions that require broad national consensus on the issues raised and national guarantees for acceptance of the results, which is something that is difficult for one party to do alone in light of the transitional circumstances that the country is going through.”

The House of Representatives pointed out that “the High National Elections Commission is the technical body concerned with any tasks related to elections or holding a referendum, as it is the competent institution and the house of expertise in this field, and there is no justification for establishing parallel institutions.”

The House of Representatives demanded that the Presidential Council “immediately withdraw its decision and called on all concerned institutions not to respect the decision or act on what is stated in it.”

The House of Representatives said at the end of its statement: “We demand that the President of the Presidential Council explain to the Libyan people what the Council has provided in the two most important files that it is responsible for according to the Geneva Agreement, which are the security file and the national reconciliation file.”
