The interim government has decided to convert the Ganobhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, into a ‘July Uprising Memorial Museum’ and open it to the public.

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said, our Ganabhavan, it could never become Ganabhavan as it is actually called. Since this public building has been conquered by the students in a coup d’état, it will be opened to the public.

He said, Ganobhaban will be established as ‘July Uprising Memorial Museum’ to preserve the memory of the July Uprising, the memory of the martyrs, all the injustices that happened during the previous fascist regime.

The advisor said that the action will be started soon. It will be kept as it was won by the people. We will establish a museum inside it, where the memory of this coup will be preserved.

Students protested in July demanding quota reform in government jobs. However, there were allegations that Sheikh Hasina’s government used excessive force to suppress this movement. By mid-July, hundreds of people had lost their lives. Later that movement turned into a movement to overthrow the government. The Awami League government became more strict in suppressing this movement. Killing students indiscriminately. However, the government fell on August 5 in a student uprising. Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and fled to India.
