The Minister of Health, Nitzan Horowitz, and the Minister of the Interior, Ayelet Shaked, agreed that the decision to declare the United Kingdom and Denmark as red states will be postponed for a day until next Thursday at midnight (on the night between Thursday and Friday).
The decision to postpone for a day is intended to allow the public additional assessment time, including on flights back to Israel, before the decision takes effect.
In a statement last night (Thursday), which Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz convened with senior health officials, in light of restrictions on the spread of the Omicron variant, the head of the Public Health Service at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sharon Elrai Price, listed the new countries in Europe, defined as red: “England, Denmark and Belgium Will be added to the list of red countries. The remarks come after the Ministry of Health’s country classification committee recommended the government declare Britain and Denmark as red states. But a further examination carried out found that Belgium is borderline and does not meet the criteria of a red state. Therefore, at this stage, there will be no special restrictions on entry and exit from this country. However, to the attention of passengers, the prevalence of omicrons in Belgium is on the rise and therefore there may be changes in the guidelines in the coming days.
The meaning of being a red state, means that it is a state to which entry is prohibited except with an exceptional permit, and all those returning from a red state will be charged with full isolation. All returnees will be charged with isolation in a hotel on behalf of the state, until a negative result is obtained in the PCR test they performed at the entrance to Israel. After receiving a negative result, they will be allowed to complete the period of isolation in their home, as long as they declare that no one other than them lives or stays in the home.
