“The decline in incidence has stopped” – Corriere.it

by time news

The picture of the transmission of coronavirus infection in Italy is not in a critical situation, but shows signs that require particular attention: due to the number of regions and autonomous provinces at moderate epidemic risk (which are now 8) and because the decline has ceased of the incidence. To write it, in the draft of the weekly monitoring, are the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health: which therefore confirm on the one hand how Italy is firmly confirmed in the white area, on the other how the variants – and in particular the Delta variant – is progressively increasing its pressure, mainly in young and more frequently asymptomatic subjects.

The impact of Covid on hospital services, for now, is far from that of the previous waves, and the employment rates in the medical and intensive care area are still decreasing. But what happens in other countries struggling with the Delta variant (which is now dominant in Spain and Portugal, and 99% in Great Britain), even if with high vaccination coverage, must push to keep the attention high: to complete the cycles of vaccination and increase the traceability capacity.

On the basis of ECDC data and forecasts, the presence of outbreaks caused by the delta viral variant in Italy and the current vaccination coverage, it is advisable to maintain high attention, the control room explains.

The mean Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 0.66, a slight increase compared to the previous week, although it remains below one even in the upper limit. In two Regions – Abruzzo and Sardinia – the punctual RT is above 1 (and precisely 1.09).
