Title: Xbox Exclusive “Redfall” Suffers Major Drop in Concurrent Players

Subtitle: Bethesda’s latest release fails to retain player interest despite promised improvements

Date: October 15, 2023

In a disappointing turn of events for Microsoft, the much-hyped Xbox exclusive game “Redfall” has seen a significant decline in its concurrent player count, dropping to single digits at times just three months after its release. The game, which received poor reviews upon its launch in early 2023, has struggled to maintain its player base.

According to PCGamesN, the player count of “Redfall” now reaches such lows that it becomes impossible to fill a four-player co-op lobby during certain periods of the day. This decline in player engagement has been observed throughout early October on the Steam platform, with less than four players actively participating in the game at any given time.

On its debut, “Redfall” garnered some attention with 6,124 concurrent players on Steam on Day 1 in late April. However, within a short span of two months, the numbers dwindled below 100 by June. It has now been revealed by VGC that the game hit a single-digit player count every day during the last week of September and the first week of October.

While “Redfall” is also available on Game Pass for both Xbox and PC, it seems that the majority of players are accessing the game through these platforms. Despite this, the consistently low player count raises concerns about the game’s future and poses a challenge for Bethesda, the developer responsible for its creation.

In a bid to revive interest in “Redfall,” Bethesda has recently released a promised 60fps patch, along with significant changes to the game’s combat and gameplay mechanics. These efforts seem to have had a modest impact, resulting in a slight increase in the player count to mid-two-digits in the past day or so.

Bethesda’s commitment to ongoing improvements and updates for “Redfall” suggests that the company is determined to address the concerns raised by its player base. However, with the game struggling to attract and retain players even with the introduction of patches and updates, the future appears uncertain for this once highly anticipated exclusive.

As Microsoft and Bethesda continue to work on “Redfall,” it remains to be seen whether these efforts will be able to salvage the game’s reputation and restore player confidence.
