We thought the project buried. More than two months after having announced it to the National Assembly, Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, declared that he would finally present the decree dissolving the Uprisings of the Earth (SLT), Wednesday June 21 during the council ministers. “No cause justifies injuring police and gendarmes”, explained in particular Mr. Darmanin, about the environmental movement, which accepts several forms of action, some of which are radical.

Government spokesman Olivier Véran agreed. “The climate cause does not justify going to stone the gendarmes on a field”he claimed, referring to the demonstration in Sainte-Soline (Deux-Sèvres), on March 25, where violent clashes took place with the police. “The actions implemented by this group of structures call for violence. (…) Sainte-Soline is extreme violence with the desire to injure or even kill police officers, and therefore, we are going very, very far. The association of a just cause with violence, is that normal? »also questioned the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, on the online media Brut.

A “very political dissolution”

The SLTs – which define themselves not as an organisation, but as a set of movements and federated structures for the defense of the environment – have denounced a “very political and particularly worrying dissolution (…) demanded directly from the Head of State by agro-industry and the FNSEA”. In a interview at Pointon June 15, the new president of the agricultural union, Arnaud Rousseau, had asked ” acts ” against the SLTs, and claimed to have requested a meeting with Gérald Darmanin. The FNSEA does not confirm whether the two officials have seen each other and did not wish to comment on the announcement of the dissolution of the Minister of the Interior.

For Léna Lazare, member of the SLT, the decision turns out to be “deeply undemocratic” since it is attacking a large coalition of farmers’ organisations, trade unions, climate activists, elected officials or citizen collectives and supported by 110,000 people in a petition. She also regrets « criminalisation » and the ” repression “ towards the Uprisings, moreover denounced by UN special rapporteurs.

For the Confédération paysanne, the third agricultural union, which has joined forces with the Uprisings for several struggles, including those against basins, the movement “has greatly contributed over the past two years to making visible the urgency to act against the destruction of lifesaid his spokesperson, Laurence Marandola. Our histories and our modes of action are different, but our alliances are essential. And dissolution or not, whole sections of society will remain mobilized tomorrow. »
