“The denouement has not yet come” – Kommersant FM – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his address to the country, explained the reason for recognizing the republics of Donbass. The head of state turned to history to show that the problems in the neighboring state did not begin today. The so-called Western partners also got it from Putin, he said that their main task is to hinder the development of the Russian Federation, and the actions of the authorities in Kiev are a way to achieve their goals. Kommersant FM political observer Dmitry Drize draws attention to the fact that the issue of a big war has not yet been closed.

Vladimir Putin delivered a lecture to the world, let’s call it in a scientific way: “On the topical problems of Soviet and recent Russian history.” It is not difficult to guess that the main goal was to explain, probably still more to their own population, why it is necessary to recognize the two republics of Donbass.

However, it may seem that there was another task – to prepare the listener. So that by the end of the speech, a simple person or a leader endowed with power, firstly, morally accepts, and, secondly, agrees that the recognition of the DPR and LPR is not the worst thing that could happen on this difficult day.

Almost an hour-long speech by the head of the Russian state contained many disturbing theses, so at some point it might seem that something more than recognition could happen. But for now, it’s limited to that. However, this is not a reason to take a breath.

There is another important factor – the so-called rallying of the elites in the light of the prospect of a difficult historical period. Certainly, a historic meeting of the country’s Security Council took place in the Catherine’s Hall of the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin listened to the views of key state leaders on whether or not to recognize.

All participants, of course, agreed and supported. But all the same, there were proposals to wait, to give partners a chance and, most importantly, that the consequences for the economy are inevitable. And our people, as you know, do not bathe in luxury. Upstairs is well aware of this. It can be seen that there are some fears in the elites, taking into account many inputs. But be that as it may, there is a chance to learn how to live in conditions without five minutes of a besieged fortress.

By the way, the next date – this time Monday, February 21 – began to be called black due to the fall of the markets. We end with the words of Dmitry Medvedev that we will have to be patient, but, in the end, it will still be better. After all, partners are well aware that there is no getting away from us. The statement, of course, is controversial, like everything that happens around the action.
