The density of politics

The first week of the new government has been of remarkable density, like cramming ourselves with politics, the old and the new politics that go hand in hand. In the Executive we have mainly seen exercises of authority and in the Assembly old grudges as the first item on the agenda.

The country most interested in politics has been stuffed with secrets. We only know about the pact that they prefer to call it “agreement”; From the laws they tell us the performance in dollars and the decorative objectives; from the popular consultation, nothing. Those less interested in politics have been left empty-handed with a bowl full of indigestible problems.

The first days of the Executive have been declarations of authority: the most important political agreement was made without a government minister; the death of the coordinating ministry of public companies has been decreed; With correista theatricality he has broken the drug consumption table and in a most dramatic act of authority he has sent the vice president near Cairo.

The National Assembly, more discreet, has preferred to be identical to itself: the same stars that have already crashed with crossed death, the same priorities, the same grudges and revenges. The new assembly members prefer not to appear and the important problems of the country kept in the drawers. The only thing new was the speed in the distribution of positions.

With persistent optimism we continue to trust that the new government will improve citizen security conditions and increase jobs. Andrés Oppenheimer says in his latest book that optimists live 10 years longer than pessimists (bad news for the IESS!).

The leader that the Ecuadorian people need is not the firefighter who puts out fires but the builder who designs a national project, communicates it with solvency and timeliness and makes the country dream of the stated objectives. We are at the stage where we deny the past, but we have not yet embraced the future.
