In accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court DCC 23-215 dated July 13, 2023, the deputies have until Thursday July 20 at midnight to appoint the Secretaries of the Committees. Taken aback by time, the President of the National Assembly of Benin, Louis Vlavonou, via a press release from his administrative secretary, invites his colleagues this Monday, July 17, 2023 at 10 a.m. to an extraordinary session. This parliamentary meeting will focus on two items on the agenda mentioned in the press release. These items on the agenda relate to the election of the Secretaries of the Standing Committees of the National Assembly. These positions were left vacant after the deputies of the parliamentary group “Les Démocrates” refused to appoint representatives from among them.

The decision of the Constitutional Court also says in black and white that in the event of refusal of “Democrats” to apply for the positions of Bureau Secretaries of the Standing Committees, the majority parties “Bloc Républicain” and “UP le Renouveau” have until July 27 to fill the positions left vacant by the opposition. On behalf of the extraordinary session on Monday, parliamentarians will also elect their representatives to sit in regional parliaments. These are the parliaments of ECOWAS, CIP and UEMOA. The deputies will finally elect their representatives to the High Court of Justice, to the Personal Data Protection Authority and to the Beninese Commission for Human Rights.
