The Deputy head of the European Commission suggested to EU residents to reduce the temperature in their apartments

Deputy head of the European Commission (EC) Frans Timmermans suggested that Europeans reduce their dependence on Russian energy resources by lowering the temperature in their apartments. This will help reduce energy consumption and thus make the EU “stronger against Russia,” he said.

“We need to tell citizens: your choice of how and how much energy you consume determines how strong we are in our response to Russia. By lowering the air temperature in your home, you can significantly help reduce our energy consumption and thus make us stronger in relation to Russia,” Mr. Timmermans said in a speech, presenting the EC plan to phase out Russian energy resources.

According to the European Commission, gas supplies from Russia now provide 40% of all gas consumption in the EU. In addition, Russia provides 27% of EU oil imports and 46% of coal imports. Today, March 8, it became known that the United States refused all energy from Russia. The United Kingdom has taken a similar decision.

According to the European Commission’s plan to phase out Russian energy resources, Europe needs to diversify gas supplies, accelerate the transition to renewable energy and replace gas in heating systems. The plan is planned to be implemented by 2030.
