The Magistrate’s Court in Petah Tikva today (Friday) extended the detention of the parents from the lowlands who were arrested on suspicion of causing the death of their infant son, who is only six weeks old, who is lifeless with a suspicion of a fracture in his skull. The investigation continues.
As stated, the parents were arrested yesterday for interrogation and were brought today for a hearing on extending their detention in accordance with the needs of the interrogation and its findings. At the end, the court extended their detention until January 10. The hearing was held behind closed doors after the court ruled last night during a confidential hearing that a restraining order would be imposed on the investigation, for seven days, in order not to reveal the identity of the victim.
According to medical sources, the baby was present during the medical diagnosis with a suspicion of a fracture in his skull. Depending on the needs of the investigation, an autopsy procedure will be performed to obtain findings and a comprehensive medical diagnosis.
Advocate Ran Alon, who represents the father on behalf of the Public Defender’s Office, said: “This is a tragic case, of a couple of parents who love their children very much and are very saddened by the sudden and traumatic death of their baby son. “In this case, one should be careful not to jump to hasty conclusions from the criminal field before obtaining findings from the Institute of Forensic Medicine regarding the circumstances of the death.”
Advocate Gal Wolf, who represents the mother on behalf of the Public Defender’s Office, added: “This is a mother who is devoted to her children. She is in critical condition in light of the traumatic event that befell the family. We will wait for the police to complete the investigation soon and the parents will be released to their homes to mourn the death of their son. “
