The developer of the Russian vaccine assessed its effectiveness against Omicron

The new strain of the coronavirus COVID-19 “Omicron” requires a comprehensive study and is currently causing concern, the Vector Center of Rospotrebnadzor said.

The center said in a commentary that the strain “has a large number of mutations in the S-protein gene” and “for a number of mutations … a role in evading the immune response has been shown.” However, the center believes that the effectiveness of the Epivakkoron vaccine against Omicron will be comparable to that for the Delta variant.

Earlier, the Federation Council said that the new strain could already penetrate into the territory of the Russian Federation with tourists returning from Egypt. However, Rospotrebnadzor denied the identification of Omicron in Russia.
