There are many who think twice before filling the deposit of your vehicle. Fuel prices continue to rise week after week to reach historical limits. So much so that the liter of gasoline It has already reached two euros in several service stations in Spain, something never seen before. And with the war between Ukraine and Russia everything seems to be getting worse.

Drivers try to save as much as possible. But it’s difficult. Thus, sometimes, it is reaching the extreme. This is nothing new. There are many drivers of our country that, either due to laziness or forgetfulness, tend to lengthen the moment in which they refuel a gas station to the maximum.

And with the rise in prices, this bad habit only grows.

However, we must be aware that this practice is not advisable for the car or for the wallet, as it can cost you a significant fine from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT). Although the Traffic regulations do not include sanctions for those drivers who run out of gas, the consequences of not having stopped to report and driving with an empty tank can be punished.

What to do when you run out of gas

Running out of gas is not an action that involves a direct sanction. However, if you run out of fuel in the middle of the road you must act in a certain way to avoid the fine.

Thus, you must go to the nearest service station and fill out a approved container to transport the fuel to the vehicle. Not doing it this way and refueling in a bottle or any container is punishable and can cost a fine of up to 3,000 euros.
