The number of jobs in the US economy increased by 175 thousand in April, the country’s Ministry of Labor said in a statement, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.
Analysts on average predicted an increase of 243 thousand, according to Trading Economics. Bloomberg respondents expected a rise of 240 thousand.
According to the revised data, in March the number of jobs increased by 315 thousand, and not by 303 thousand, as previously reported.
At the same time, unemployment in the United States in April increased to 3.9% compared to 3.8% a month earlier. Experts did not expect a change, Trading Economics notes.
The number of jobs in the private sector in April increased by 167 thousand, in the public sector – by 8 thousand.
Growth in healthcare was 56 thousand, in the construction industry – 9 thousand, in retail trade – 20 thousand, in social security – 31 thousand, in the transport and warehouse sector – 22 thousand.
The average hourly wage in the private sector in April increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month and reached $34.75. In annual terms, the figure rose by 3.9%. The consensus forecast provided by Trading Economics was for growth of 0.3% and 4%, respectively.
The average workweek in the United States fell to 34.3 hours last month from 34.4 hours the month before.
The labor force participation rate remained unchanged from March at 62.7%.
