Kinshasa, April 7th2023 (CPA) – The digital transformation of the health system in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), was presented Wednesday to the Minister of Digital, Désiré-Cashmir Kolongele by the Director General of the National Agency for Clinical Engineering and Digital Health (ANICNS), Mr. Jean Thierry Kalombo.

« The purpose of my presence was to present to the Minister of Digital, the operational plan of the Agency (ANICNS) as well as a roadmap for implementing computerized patient records in 300 health facilities in the city of Kinshasa.  As you know, the President of the Republic has insisted on starting the implementation of the universal health coverage in DRC and it is in this framework that ANICNS has been set up to ensure the digital transformation of the health system », said the Director General of this Agency.

Furthermore, Mr Kalombo indicated that the priority axes of the roadmap presented to the minister include: all aspects of biometric identification of beneficiaries as well as the issuance of the national health insurance card; aspects of homologation of hospital information systems; aspects of health intranet as well as aspects of a data center dedicated or linked to universal health coverage.

« We have received instructions and guidance from the Minister of Digital Affairs on all aspects of personal data protection, protection of medical data given that Parliament has just ratified the ordinance – law on the Digital Code. Therefore, this digital transformation of health systems will benefit from a legal framework of digital technology at the international standard, » added Mr Kalombo.
