“The desire of the Ministry of Health Protection to defend the public interest and turn to the prosecutor’s office seems to me to be fair and reasonable,” states the KUL comment sent to Elta in writing on Monday, quoting A. Šimaitis.

The representatives of the hospital note that due to the violations identified during the internal audit of the activities and internal control of KUL institutions conducted last year, related to the decisions of the previous management, the hospital’s management applied to the Special Investigation Service (STT) last October. However, it was recently reported that the latter investigation had been discontinued.

For its part, SAM points out that in the near future it will contact KUL and Klaipėda city municipality in order to determine the amount of damage caused by the decisions made before the reorganization of the hospital. After receiving information, the ministry will contact the General Prosecutor’s Office, the representatives of the ministry note.

ELTA reminds that KUL, which started its activities last year, was established by merging the Klaipėda University, Jūrininkai and Palanga rehabilitation hospitals, and has debts of more than 11 million. euros. This was reported by the news portal LRT.

During the audit, it was established that at the end of 2022, the wages of employees were significantly increased. In the months of January-October of that year, the average of full-time salary deductions was slightly more than 1.9 million. euros, and in December of the same year – more than 2.9 million. euros.

The trip of a group of KUL employees to Greece from May 28 to June 3 also raised questions during the audit. From the public institution “Educational events and trainings”, KUL purchased an international professional training event-professional competence improvement seminar for 29,722 euros.

The auditors who evaluated public procurement in 2022 also found discrepancies between the hospital’s planned and actually executed purchases. For example, in that year, 200 purchases were planned and 590 purchases were made.
