“The disappearance of a free and independent political ecology creates a great void which it is urgent to fill”

by time news

LIt is now clear that all the limits of the Earth have been exceeded. Our country is not spared by the effects of climate change, arousing legitimate anxiety in the face of uncontrolled phenomena.

The underestimation of the risks and widespread shortages in public services forces us to bring out an innovative political ecology; an ecology that goes beyond the contradictions of this world, assumes sobriety and a fairer sharing of wealth and at the same time wards off the temptations of “democratures” and dictatorships.

An inability to convince

The time has come to build a real offer of political ecology in France, because it does not exist. This may seem paradoxical, but it is a reality.

Political ecology, as it is represented today in our country, is reduced to the emergence of a political movement now clearly rooted in the extreme left, a so-called New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) which responds neither to the needs of ecology nor to the wishes of a majority of French people, despite the ecological anxiety they express with regard to the upheavals that our world is experiencing. Hence the inability to convince our fellow citizens and the political sphere of the ecological emergency.

Contrary to what the constitution of an ecological group in the National Assembly might have led to hope, political ecology has in fact completely disappeared from the radar to blend in with the obsessions violently expressed by La France insoumise (LFI) , majority formation within the Nupes. With members who, for the most part, have nothing to do with ecology or worse, discredit environmental proposals in the eyes of many of our fellow citizens.

The disappearance of a free and independent political ecology, both for ideological reasons – the triumph of a divisive ecology – and financial – the need to bail out with public funding after the failure of the presidential election – creates there is obviously a great void that needs to be filled, as the expectations and challenges for our planet and its inhabitants are so great.

The disaster has begun

As for the ecologists who did not belong to this movement, they did not manage to create an attractive pole at the heart of the French political spectrum. This cartography exploded under the double blow of the absorption of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) by Nupes and the transformation of the ecological imperative.
