INAI speaks out on the progress of the disappearance of autonomous bodies in the Chamber of Deputies; calls for an open parliament

The president commissioner of INAI, Adrian Alcalashared a position regarding the ruling on the disappearance of autonomous bodies in the Chamber of Deputies.

In his message, the president of this autonomous body that is about to disappear, called on conduct an open parliament exercise “where diverse voices are heard.”

Adrian Alcala explained that the approval of the disappearance of autonomous bodies in the Chamber of Deputies “can seriously affect exercise, but above all, the guarantee of the rights of access to information and protection of personal data in Mexico.”

Much has been said about the fact that these rights could be protected by the government itself in its three branches, and by the institutions of all powers; but if this were to occur, as established by the ruling, we must first ask ourselves the following:

Who will people who need public information turn to in order to report corruption in their municipality, state, or federal level, or to expose poor performance by their authorities?

Who will people turn to if they report the misuse of their personal data, which in turn could lead to the violation of their privacy and the safety of their families?

Adrian Alcala, President of INAI

He indicated that with the disappearance of the INAI, the government would lose the “valuable opportunity” of having a system of balances which independently highlights areas of opportunity in terms of transparency and personal data protection.

Seeing ourselves not as an institution created to cause inconvenience, but as what we are: an institution that is part of the entire Mexican state and that is a cornerstone in the fight against what we all want, to eradicate corruption and seek our well-being.

Adrian Alcala, President of INAI
