A Long Island woman found an abandoned suitcase with an odor during her morning walk Tuesday. She ran into him in the woods behind the apartment complex. She called her mother, who advised her to call the police immediately. Something that looked like a foot, or just a shoe itself, was peeking out of the luggage. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the body of a thirty-one-year-old missing woman in the trunk.

Local station NBC New York reported that a woman living in the neighborhood found the body in a wooded area in the town of Huntington Station near the train station here.

“I got out of the car and walked over to the trunk and said, ‘Oh my God, it stinks,’ and the flies. And I said we have to call the police,” Chris Smocer, who arrived at the scene after her daughter she called because of the foul smell.

Several neighbors noticed the smell. Another told Eyewitness News: “There was a rancid smell. Strong. Something I’ve never smelled before.” One of the residents of a nearby apartment complex said that he heard a woman screaming in the woods at about three o’clock in the morning on Sunday.

After several days of searching, police identified the dead woman as 31-year-old homeless woman Seikeya Jones. How she died, however, remains a mystery. She had been reported missing by police since last month and her friends confirmed that this was not the first time she had gone missing.

“We called her Keya,” Mary Waldron told reporters. Like other people who knew the woman, she came to see the crime scene on Thursday. “She was really nice. She was always smiling. She was always happy.” She added that she said Jones got into trouble and ended up on the street. Nevertheless, her friends tried to keep in touch with her.

Residents of the apartment building near where police found Jones showed NBC New York video from a doorbell camera showing her walking in with an unknown man last week. Two people who knew her confirmed that it was Jones on the blurred recording. Police have not yet said whether the man figures in the ongoing investigation.

The Newsweek server reminds that this is not the only recent case of a similar type in the USA. In an unrelated case, a dismembered body in a grocery cart was set on fire in early August in Yonkers, New York.

Police discovered that the victim was allegedly killed in a Bronx apartment, where the killers dismembered the body, wrapped it, transported it in a shopping cart on a train, and later dumped it. During a search of the apartment, investigators reportedly found teeth and limbs, illegal drugs and a gun. In the apartment, they allegedly found severed hands in a pot and legs in a freezer.
