MadridThe migration debate has become a hot potato for the PP. The distribution of migrant children who arrived in the Canary Islands among the rest of the autonomies, which was debated on Thursday afternoon in the sectional assembly in Tenerife, put Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s party on the ropes because of its agreements with Vox. The populists are trying to take iron out of the warnings of the far-right party, which suggests that it is ready to break the autonomous coalition agreements if the PP agrees to host children in the regions where they govern together. At the same time, the PSOE pushed in the opposite direction and urged Feijóo to break once and for all with Vox and accept the reform of the foreign law that organizes aid when it falls in the extra-peninsular regions.
“We are not impressed by Vox’s challenges nor are we impressed by the government’s threats,” PP spokesman Borja Sémper said at a press conference on Tuesday. The popular leader is the executive blame of Pedro Sánchez for the situation in the Canary Islands, accusing him “he has not fulfilled his commitments in matters of immigration and border control”. For this reason, Sémper made it conditional to accept the distribution of the State provided “resources and means”. The famous speaker also struck a balance by affirming the “unity” of all the exercises of the PP, but with “rational requirements” based on the absorption capacities of each region and the umbrella provided by the Spanish government.
Regarding the reform of the immigration law, which some regions governed by the PP such as the Canary Islands and Ceuta defended and asked to be used despite the pressure from Vox, Sémper avoided doing it. Executive Sánchez proposes to change article 35 of the law that when the threshold of between 2,000 and 3,000 children who have gone alone in reception in the Canary Islands – currently almost 6,000 – is passed, the rest of the regions must admit them to the path of “unity and unity”. The Spanish president depends on the PP to approve the reform due to the fact that the Junts have been removed from the equation – the Juntaires want to remove Catalonia from the mandatory distribution between the establishments – and, with the current scenario, there is no guarantee that it will be able to extend ahead
The Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, who will chair the meeting, thinks that it is good news that the PP said that it will not listen to the threat of Vox, but expressed about the amount of “unity” promised by the people of Feijoo , who a few days ago also accepted the extreme right’s proposal to use the army to prevent the arrival of the shepherd. Rego recalled that the “willingness” to drink in the youth “has not worked so far”. Hence the need to put it in by law. The spokeswoman for Vox in Congress, Pepa Millán, warned that “if the PP gives pressure from Sánchez, it will have to govern with the PSOE” in Extremadura, Castile and Leon, Valencian Country, Murcia and Aragon. “To break is to break”, he emphasized in the press conference, in which he urged the barons of the PP of these autonomies to stand up to Génova and “enforce the agreement” with Vox.
Distribution of 347 under
In the private assembly, Rego will also propose that the autonomous regions of the Peninsula welcome 347 children in 2024. This is an idea that the Minister of Youth and Children has already raised without success a month ago in another sectional assembly. Sources from the Spanish government remember that it is a voluntary distribution that is accepted every year and that this year it is not possible to open because of the opposition, most of the exercises PP. Of these minors, 31 will qualify for Catalonia, which will host the majority following the same distribution criteria as previous years. This point and the debate on the reform of the immigration law, which will have to be passed by the Congress, will be what will be debated at the meeting.
