Images shown by television Channel N showed that the large bars were closed by military personnel, without any other movement being reported outside or inside the barracks, which in the country’s history has been crucial for the coup riots because the tanks and armored vehicles in the country.

Local media also indicated that there was an apparent normality and without any irregular movement of troops in the other bases and barracks of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force in the Peruvian capital and in the rest of the country.

Channel N showed images of the headquarters of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, whose doors were closed by armed guards, and indicated that it is probable that a meeting of the high military commands will be held to adopt a position on the decision made by Castillo.

Both opposition legislators, as well as members of organizations such as the Constitutional Court (TC), on Wednesday asked the Armed Forces “to defend the constitutional order” and oppose the decision made by Castillo.

The position of the representatives of the Judiciary coincided with the majority of the congressmen of all the benches, who denounced that President Castillo carried out a coup d’état.

The ruler dictated this Wednesday to temporarily dissolve Congress and establish a national emergency government, hours before Parliament debated a vacancy motion (removal) against him that could have removed him from the head of state.

“The following measures are issued: Temporarily dissolve the Congress of the Republic and establish an exceptional emergency government,” Castillo said in a message to the nation that was not previously announced by his communications team or on his social networks.

He also ordered a nationwide curfew as of today from 10:00 p.m. local time (3:00 GMT on Thursday) and that “the reorganization of the judicial system, the Judiciary, the Public Ministry, the National Board of Justice (Junta Nacional de Justicia) is declared ( JNJ) and the Constitutional Court (TC),” he added.
