There are people who are cautious on the phone, but others are not. It may have happened to you that you have received a call selling you an offer to change companies. The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has denounced that the double call scam is still in force.

What is this scam? The user receives a call in which the caller introduces himself as his current company, and announces that an imminent increase of a significant amount (between 15 and 20 euros, according to the affected consumers) will be applied to the monthly subscription fee. the rate they have contracted. But this call is a hoax: it is not your company who is calling, but the supposed “scammers.”

Shortly after, you receive a second call, this time from another company that offers you a good offer if they contract their rate, and sometimes they even mention that this company they should switch to is the one recommended by OCU.

The new regulations on commercial calls have not yet managed to prevent this type of unsolicited commercial calls in which the calling company does not identify itself, so the user cannot exercise their right to revoke consent (if at any time was granted). From OCU they also complain about how difficult it is for the user to know who is responsible for a telephone number that is used to make calls like these: it is common for operators to resort to subcontractors to whom they transfer direct responsibility for these deceptive practices.

Suspicious procedure

You receive two calls on the same day or very close together.

They inform you of the increase by phone. Increases are generally announced in writing, along with the monthly invoice.

The announced increases exceed 10 euros. The increases are usually less significant, between 1 and 5 euros.

They announce an imminent increase: they must notify you of the increase in your rate at least 30 days in advance.

If the company that makes you the new offer does not identify itself, or only says that the rate of the company offered is guaranteed by OCU, which is flatly false.
