SydneyMenekse Humphrey, 48, and her husband James, 55, affectionately call their van “Putu”. It has been her vehicle for two years – and her home. The German-American couple previously lived in Nuremberg, now Australia is their new home, at least until they end up in another part of the world. The two are part of the ever-growing “Van Life” movement: people who swap permanent residence and office jobs for an independent life on the street. “Getting up, having your coffee in the motorhome and then thinking about what you are doing today: that is freedom,” says James Humphrey.
