The National Civil Aviation Authority showed that China’s drone industry has witnessed strong development over the past years with unmanned aerial vehicles being used in more areas of the economy.

Data from the Civil Aviation Authority of China showed that the number of unmanned aerial vehicles in China rose by 32 percent year on year to exceed 1.26 million by the end of 2023.

According to the data, unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, flew more than 23 million hours last year.

According to Xinhua, the authority agreed to establish 17 regions and three bases for unmanned civil aviation tests, covering cities, islands and other application areas.

According to the agency, the significant increase in the number of drones in China and the establishment of unmanned flight testing areas show that the country’s low-altitude economy is a blue ocean in its industrial development, according to experts.

Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officials said: The general aviation industry is the main body of the low-altitude economy, and its development will be supported by innovation, large-scale modeling, general aviation technology and equipment upgrades, and create a new pattern with Chinese characteristics for the development of the general aviation industry.

Drones are widely used in China in industries including agriculture, forestry, livestock raising and fishing, in addition to entertainment and aerial photography, and some cities have begun testing air delivery via unmanned aircraft.
