The pharmaceutical industry has established itself as one of the most important in the world. Thanks to constant innovations, alternatives for healing or treatment against different diseases have been designed. The clearest example can be seen today with the pandemic that has been active since the appearance of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. But although the final objective is always the patient, it cannot be forgotten that it is a business and some medicines stand out because they are the ones that generate the greatest profits, do you know what they are?
In the first instance, one might think that vaccines designed against Covid-19 occupy the first place. They have been available for just over a year and are applied on a daily basis throughout the world. But although they leave a large amount of money to the companies that developed them, they are not really the main income.
A highly profitable business

Only during 2021 were the drugs with the largest profits because they reached the figure of 176 billion dollars. This represents more than double the second position that corresponds to vaccines with 88.6 billion dollars in sales.

What will happen in the future?

With respect to vaccines against all diseases that exist today there is an inverse effect. The figure will be lower because it is estimated to reach 55.1 billion dollars.
