INVESTIGATION – These imitations of luxury cosmetics and perfumes spotted by influencers are creating rushes in store.

Buy the equivalent of a Gucci perfume for less than 15 euros… Do you dream of it? Lestiiktokeurs have the best plans for you. On the Chinese social network, videos promoting “dupes” (“duplicate”, in French) are multiplying. This term does not designate counterfeits, but rather imitations of the smells and textures of high-end brand cosmetics, such as Mac, Gucci or Chanel.

“The 5 perfume dupes at Zara”, “the lipstick at Normal that imitates Mac”… These less than a minute videos are flourishing on TikTok with a view count of up to 1 million. The hashtag #Dupe, in the singular, has more than 2 billion views on the social network, to which are added 1.2 billion views for the hashtag #Dupes, in the plural.
