With regulatory changes and the participation of the Agrarian Chamber and industry organizations, Bulgarian producers will be better protected

We are waiting for a decision of the European Commission in relation to the ceilings on Ukrainian aid. This was said by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev during a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber (GARDEN) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He emphasized that he is ready to make the payment immediately. “Only after a positive response can we proceed with the transfer of the funds. If funds are disbursed without such authorization, our country will enter into criminal proceedings. We must not break the rules”, the minister categorically told the participants of the meeting. The branch chamber confirmed its support in relation to the implementation of the Memorandum and reported the progress on it.

“We are in a market that is expanding and we must be able to withstand it and remain competitive by building mechanisms to support our producers and above all to support our primary production of fruits, vegetables, meat, milk,” Minister Vatev also emphasized, giving examples of good models in Romania, Spain, Germany and France.

He informed that the establishment of municipal shops, in which only local, Bulgarian products would be offered, is being considered. The minister also recalled that work is underway on regulatory changes to protect Bulgarian producers to a higher degree by improving the functioning of the food supply chain and achieving balance and transparency in trade relations with strict compliance with competition rules, as the initiative was supported by the other participants in today’s meeting – Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Interior, National Revenue Agency, Customs Agency, CPC, KZP, DKSBT, IALV, BABH.

“This week alone we held two other workshops where the Fruit and Vegetable Chamber and greenhouse grower trade organizations supported the understanding that the sector needs better market organization of the agricultural and food supply chain and have confirmed their readiness for active cooperation with the Ministry of Health”, informed Deputy Minister Alexander Yotsev for his part.

He added that the “Fruits and Vegetables” Branch Chamber has already issued a contact group to work in the process of drafting a draft law on the organization and rules of the supply chain of agricultural and food products, relying on the expertise and all other representatives of the Bulgarian agrarian chamber to have results from this legislative initiative.

The Deputy Minister informed that interest in working on the draft law was also expressed by the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Producers and the National Association of Greenhouse Producers, who made proposals for cooperation and regarding the implementation of policies in the sector, including the retention of manpower and support tools, incl. tied support and state aid. The Deputy Minister pointed out that the process of drafting the draft law is still at an initial stage, with work being done on defining its scope, field of application and structure, as well as on the analysis of good practices of other countries. He stated that when it is ready, the first draft of the document will be presented to interested organizations for comments, comments and suggestions, and that other meetings with industry organizations will be held to present the work on the project.
