The educational community of the Francisco Escudero Music Conservatory has convened rallies this Friday before the Basque Government Delegation and the San Sebastián City Council to demand an urgent solution to the problems that have plagued this educational center for many years. The lack of classrooms, elevator, accessibility, rehearsal rooms, auditorium, soundproofing and air conditioning “has long since exhausted the patience” of students, parents’ association and management team

“The feeling of discrimination against the other conservatories in the public network of Bizkaia and Araba, which have had adequate infrastructure for years” is notorious in the educational community. This conviction of being discriminated against is exacerbated because they observe that “for years the San Sebastián City Council and the Basque Government have reached agreements to find spaces in the city for all kinds of educational projects except for the Conservatory.”

For this reason, parents, teachers and the management team have launched a protest campaign to which they invite the public to join, as well as “the entities of the sector and cultural groups”, and which will materialize this Friday with a concentration at 12 p.m. in Alderdi Eder in front of the Basque Government Education Delegation and a quarter of an hour later, in front of the Town Hall.

The demand for decent equipment is historic in the San Sebastián conservatory, located on Easo street. Being located in a building built in 1933, it suffers from all kinds of deficiencies to meet the minimum requirements of a music education center. As an example, soundproofing is conspicuous by its absence: from the first floor it is possible to listen to the rehearsals carried out by a trombone student on the fourth.
