MAINTENANCE – This French doctor and researcher fights against malaria in Southeast Asia, where resistance to treatment has appeared.
With more than 500,000 deaths each year, malaria (or malaria) remains one of the deadliest diseases in the world. This week, the WHO Africa office will provide an update on the most recent vaccination campaign against the disease. Even if this initiative mainly targets children, a category which represents more than three quarters of malaria deaths in the world, it is still criticized because of the disappointing effectiveness of the vaccine. François Nosten, malaria expert and professor at the University of Oxford, gives an update on the disease for Le Figaro. This French doctor and researcher is also director of the SMRU (Shoklo Malaria Research Unit), in Mae Sot, Thailand, near the border with Burma.
