On Tuesday, August 20th, inaugurated the El Tule vehicular bridge in the El Tular villagelocated in Asuncion Mita, JutiapaThis new infrastructure represents a significant achievement for the region, as it replaces the old structure that collapsed in June 2022 due to the heavy rains of the winter season. The rainfall caused the Ostúa River to rise, leading to the collapse of the previous bridge and leaving several communities isolated.

This structure directly benefits more than 53,000 inhabitants of communities such as El Tule, Cerro Blanco, Anguiatú, San Benito la Bomba, San Rafael Cerro Blanco, Las Ánimas, Torera and Caserío Lima, who will be able to access products, medical services and education more easily.
Its construction is part of the rehabilitation project of the RD-JUT-44 route, a very important road in the region. The work, which is 100 meters long, was carried out with an approximate investment of 46.7 million quetzales. During the inauguration ceremony, the president of the republic, Bernardo Arévalo; the president of Congress, Nery Ramos; the minister of communications, Félix Alvarado, as well as local authorities were present.
Work started in 2022
Construction of the new El Tule bridge began in October 2022, after the structure collapsed due to heavy rains that increased the flow of the Ostúa River. The incident was recorded on June 18 and not only caused material damage, but also claimed the life of the former governor of Jutiapa, Armando Palma.
The contract was awarded in July of that same year under a state of emergency due to the emergency generated by the rains, which caused damage in several regions of the country, including the department of Jutiapa. The project faced multiple challenges throughout its execution, including the interruption of work for several months.
In May 2023, the Municipality of Asunción Mita provided an update on the progress of the work, reporting that significant progress had been made in its construction. Finally, this year, the work was completed after local authorities and community representatives submitted a request to the communications portfolio.
