BRENTONICO. The search operations for the elderly man from Brentonico from 1947 missing on Mount Baldo, which began yesterday at 6pm, ended around 9.45am this morning with the discovery of the man’s lifeless body. His failure to return was reported to the Single Emergency Number 112 yesterday afternoon by his family, who did not find him at home and were unable to contact him. The last sighting by a fellow villager dated back to the previous day on path 650 on the outskirts of the town of Brentonico. The man was found on a steep slope downstream from the path, above the Festa di Brentonico area, at an altitude of around 1,400 meters above sea level. From an initial reconstruction it is probable that the causes of death can be traced back to a slip.
The searches began yesterday around 6pm and continued until 2am this night, in the area of Brentonico and the paths above, involving the Alpine and Speleological Rescue, with the stations of Vallagarina, Ala, Riva del Garda and Trento – monte Bondone, as well as the Technical Research Group and the Canine Units, the Fire Brigade of Brentonico and the Vallagarina district, as well as the Trento permanent ones with the drones, the Canine Units of the Red Cross and the Provincial School of Search and Disaster Dogs, the Forestry Corps and the police. Around 7pm yesterday, an overflight by the Trentino Emergenza helicopter gave no results, but in the highest part visibility was poor due to the fog.
The searches resumed around 7.30 this morning with mixed teams who retraced the paths and woods above Brentonico. In the meantime, a signal picked up by the IMSI Catcher system supplied with the Guardia di Finanza helicopter allowed the search area to be narrowed down and the elderly man was found around 9.45am, off the path on a steep slope. After the doctor declared his death and authorized the authorities, the body was transported down the valley on a stretcher and entrusted to the hearse shortly after 11.30am.
