The High National Elections Commission announced, “The closing of the voter registry for the municipal council elections, “first group,” with 210,545 voters, including 149,233 men and 61,312 women, a number that exceeded expectations in relation to the population of those municipalities.”
The Commission explained in a statement, “It has opened the door for objections and appeals in the register, stressing its keenness to provide the opportunity for citizens of the targeted municipalities to participate in the electoral process by extending for two consecutive periods of time that achieved a noticeable turnout for registration, as an expression of the increased level of awareness among citizens of those municipalities of the importance of participation, exercising the right to vote, and choosing who represents them in decision-making circles.”
The Commission confirmed that it will work to publish the initial lists of the voters’ registry in the polling stations where voters are registered over the course of three days, starting next Sunday, calling on voters to go to the polling station where they registered to ensure that their names are included in the lists correctly.
The Commission indicated that “whoever finds an error that requires action to be taken by the Commission, all he has to do is submit a request according to the prepared form to the (Objections and Complaints Committee) at the Electoral Administration Office affiliated with the Commission within whose jurisdiction the registered polling center is located and which supervises the municipal elections. It is also possible to use the “1441” Help Center to answer inquiries regarding the procedures that must be taken regarding any error that may have been included in those lists or to object to another voter whose name was included in violation of the procedures specified for the electoral process.”
She stressed that “these elections have a symbolic significance that goes beyond the peaceful transfer of power to consolidating the principle of sovereignty and national unity, the fate of which Libyans have been wondering about for years, calling on everyone to adhere to this path to prove that the Libyan people have the right to have their say and decide their fate through a constitution that organizes the entity of their state and opens new horizons for a future full of prosperity and development.”
