After the meeting of Kyriakos Mitsotakis with Nikos Christodoulidis, a Framework of Understanding was signed between the two countries, for the promotion of Electrical Interconnection Cyprus-Crete.

On the basis of this Framework, which was signed between the Minister of Environment and Energy of Greece, Theodore Skylakakis and the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus, Giorgos Papanastasiou, and following the relevant decisions of the Regulatory Authorities of the two countries provided for in this, the project is expected to restart in the next few days.

As stated in the Framework of Understanding, the Cyprus-Crete Electricity Interconnection will contribute to the removal of Cyprus’s energy isolation, by interconnecting the national electricity transmission system of Cyprus with the corresponding trans-European systems͘͘͘͘.

It is a project of strategic importance for CyprusGreece, but also for the entire EU, as this project will not only connect Cyprus to the European electricity system, facilitating its energy transition, but will also promote Greece’s goal of becoming a transmission corridor clean energy.
